The Jockey through Life Scholarship Fund awards annual scholarships to non-traditional, returning students who have overcome challenging odds to pursue their education. 

The fund was started and inspired by Jacquie Dalton-Fiorito, a Brookdale Alumna and founder of BookMark It.   Jacquie was a high school dropout and thoroughbred jockey before returning to school and earning her GED and Associate in Arts Degree from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ.  She went on to graduate magna cum laude from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Speech. 

Today, she is a successful entrepreneur and active community volunteer, advocating for education and horseracing.  Her personal and professional endeavors combine the lessons she learned on the racetrack with her discovery of literature as a vehicle toward self-realization.  The Jockey through Life Scholarship is her tribute to small acts of giving that motivate significant strides toward change. 

Book sales for BookMark It events are processed by the Brookdale College Bookstore, with proceeds benefitting the scholarship fund.  100 % of all donations and proceeds from events supporting the fund go directly to scholarship recipients.
